BIBLE STUDY TOOLS ~
A note on dictionaries: A dictionary is an indespensible tool for a thorough study of God's word. We have linked here to a few different dictionaries, but we encourage you to pay close attention to Noah Webster's 1828 American Dictionary of the English Language. Webster wrote this, his original dictionary, based on years of study of many literary and reference volumes from around the world, but primarily he used the Holy Bible. Webster's definitions reflect his intense study of the Bible, and many of the definitions contain scripture references for context. It is in some cases a sad commentary on our society to look at definitions of words from the 1828 dictionary and see how they have been changed over the years to what we find in our modern dictionaries, words that have been secularized and sanitized. |
